Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and CBL Publications ("we", "us", or "CBL Publications") governing your use of the MoveBuddy AI mobile app (iOS and Android), its companion web app, and related services (together, "the Service").
By creating an account, joining a move, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who we are
MoveBuddy AI is operated by CBL Publications, based in the United States. Contact: privacy@movebuddy-ai.com.
2. The Service
MoveBuddy AI helps you inventory a household move: you create numbered boxes, log their contents by photo, voice, or typing, and search for items later. AI features — powered by third-party AI models — can recognize box contents from photos, interpret voice commands, and answer questions about your inventory. You can share a move with collaborators via a join code or QR code.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
- You sign in with your email address via a one-time link, or use the Service anonymously by joining a move with a code. You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account and for keeping access to your email secure.
- You must provide accurate information and may not impersonate anyone else.
4. Acceptable use
The Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use: managing the inventory of your own household move (or one you are genuinely helping with). Normal heavy use during a real move — packing many boxes in a day — is expected and welcome.
5. Prohibited use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation, including to catalog, store images of, or coordinate the movement of stolen property, contraband, or other illegal goods.
- Upload content you do not have the right to use, or content that is harmful, infringing, or malicious (including malware or code intended to disrupt the Service).
- Make automated, scripted, or excessive use of the Service, including its AI features — for example, driving the app with bots or scripts, repeatedly creating and deleting boxes, or generating AI requests beyond what personal moving use requires.
- Circumvent or attempt to circumvent usage quotas, rate limits, free-tier limits, or any other technical restriction, including by creating multiple accounts for that purpose.
- Resell, sublicense, or provide the Service (including its AI features) to third parties, or use it to build or operate a competing product or to extract data for one.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, probe, or scan the Service except where the law permits it despite this restriction.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers, or other users' use of it, or attempt to access another user's move or data without being a member of that move.
6. AI features and accuracy
AI-generated content — item lists recognized from photos, interpretations of voice commands, and answers to inventory questions — is produced by machine-learning models and may be incomplete or inaccurate. It is provided as a convenience, not as a guarantee. Review AI output before relying on it, and independently record items of significant value or importance (for example, for insurance purposes). We are not responsible for losses arising from inaccurate AI output.
7. Purchases, packs, and expiry
- Optional usage packs (additional boxes, AI photo snaps, and cloud photo storage) are sold as in-app purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is processed by the store; their terms and refund policies apply to billing.
- Packs are consumable and apply to a specific move. A pack keeps the move's paid features active for 90 days from purchase (extensions and additional packs extend this window as described in the app at the time of purchase).
- Quotas (boxes, AI snaps) are spent as you use them and do not renew automatically. Unused quota expires with the move's paid window.
- When a paid window lapses without renewal, your data follows the retention timeline in Section 8. Prices and pack contents may change; changes never reduce quota you have already purchased.
8. Your content and data retention
- You retain ownership of the content you put into the Service (photos, item lists, move details). You grant us a limited license to host, process (including with the AI sub-processors named in the Privacy Policy), and display that content to you and the collaborators you invite — solely to operate the Service.
- After a paid move expires and is not renewed: cloud photos are permanently deleted 30 days after expiry, and the entire move 60 days after expiry. We email the move owner before these deletions. Free-tier moves do not expire; free-tier photos live only on your device.
- You can export your inventory and delete your account at any time from Settings — see the Privacy Policy for details and timelines.
9. Enforcement
We monitor aggregate, content-free usage signals (counts of boxes created and deleted, AI calls, and similar metrics) to detect abuse. If your usage violates these Terms, we may — at our discretion and depending on severity — warn you by email, temporarily suspend your account, or terminate it. Where practical we will warn you first and give you a chance to respond, but we may suspend immediately when needed to protect the Service or comply with law. Suspension blocks sign-in but does not delete your data; the retention timelines in Section 8 continue to apply.
10. Service changes and availability
We may change, add, or remove features, and may discontinue the Service entirely with reasonable advance notice and an opportunity to export your data. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability; the Service may be down for maintenance or for reasons beyond our control.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY — INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE, OR THAT DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST. KEEP YOUR OWN RECORDS OF ITEMS THAT MATTER TO YOU.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CBL PUBLICATIONS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) US $50. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CBL Publications from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Either party may instead pursue qualifying claims in small-claims court.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the latest version. Material changes will be announced inside the app before they take effect; continuing to use the Service after that constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
